Project Description

Side extension to 19 century semi detached dwelling.

Existing dwelling is very compact with staircase blocking the only direction available for extension – to the side. To extend the existing narrow and winding stairs needed to be removed and substituted by one with mid-flight landing. As an effect the structure of the dwelling needed to be altered. The design allows for the existing downstairs bathroom to stay in place and unaffected by the works, saving on the expense of retrofitting it.

The extension respects the traditional style, but adds modern touch of new porch to the front of the dwelling. It is respecting the styling and massing trend of new extensions in the immediate neighbourhood.

Alteration of the existing structure was a hard choice, but decided to be the best for the overall development of this property.
